Readers are Leaders

Meeting Jacinda

As you all know, Huntly College is the school for leaders. We’ve been talking a great deal about leadership recently and, thinking about various global leaders that we have been studying, we wondered if great leaders are also great readers. Often, a truly outstanding leader is one who is thirsty for knowledge, and often, this is where reading comes to the fore.

We’ve been extraordinarily lucky to be working in partnership with the National Library and the Community of Readers initiative. As a result, Tien and Katie were invited to a prestigious event in Wellington, to speak alongside Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Minister Tracey Martin. The event on August 5 2020 was a Celebration of Reading and launched the announcement of a new role in Aotearoa New Zealand: the Reading Ambassador | Te Awhi Rito.

Tien and Katie spoke about their love of, and the importance of reading. You can read the National Library official blog about the event here: Reading Ambassador to champion the importance of reading

We are excited about our continued partnership with the National Library and being part of the Community of Readers. Huntly College is certainly a school for leaders. And leaders are readers!
